“Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor ….” — General John Logan, General Order No. 11, May 5, 1868
With these words, Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was officially started. It is a day for Americans to honor those who gave their lives for the freedoms we cherish.
While we start the vacation season, let’s remember loved ones, ancestors, comrades in arms, neighbors and strangers who have fallen. We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives so we could live free.
I wish you all a very safe, peaceful, and blessed Memorial Day!
Sincerely,
Sajid
